YOU CAN HAVE HAPPINESS

When I was a very young girl, I knew that my happiness was up to me and now, a very young adult (te he he at 44 going on 13), I still know that my happiness is up to me. I call it a blessing! When I work with individuals, to help them overcome stress, what I am really doing is teaching them that their happiness is up to them. So often I speak with people who are at the end of their rope, ready to go into a nervous or emotional breakdown. What is happening to these individuals is they have not intentionally taken responsibility for their happiness. This is not necessarily their fault. Most people are not taught that we are in charge of our own destiny. We have free will and we can choose our thoughts, feelings, actions, and attitudes. The opposite of taking charge of our own destiny is living our lives on auto pilot. When we live our lives on auto pilot we are doing the same things over and over again, which is causing ourselves stress. What do we do over and over again that causes our stress? Everyday we get up, get ready for work, work, go home, watch tv, eat dinner, then go to bed so that we can wake up in the morning and do the same thing over again tomorrow. Another thing we do over and over again is repeating our same thoughts. These thoughts can be of our doubts, our fears, and our worries. These thoughts can also be focused on everything that is wrong with our work, home, spouse, child, or self. These thoughts can also be focused and consumed with our problems. These thoughts, that we have over and over again, happen to be habits that are created at a very young age, just like me thinking I am in charge of my happiness. Weather you think that your life is horrible or wonderful, it all has to with what your habitual thoughts are. Therefore, if we want to be happy, we must create habitual thoughts of faith, hope, and gratitude. We must create habitual thoughts that are focused on enjoying what we have, who we are with, and what is so wonderful about life.
